Inception Meeting held on February 2, 2011 at the World Bank Offices in Jakarta, Indonesia for the WB funded project on Expanding Access to Islamic Finance for SMEs in Indonesia.

In this ongoing project, e.Gen will be developing a pilot assessment tool for improving access to Islamic finance for SMEs. The project is also expected to develop a strategic framework for policy recommendations in improving access to finance for SMEs through Islamic finance products and services. Furthermore, the assignment will also provide a foundation for the World Bank’s engagement in this area to support improvements in the effectiveness, efficiency, and outreach of Islamic financial products and services in Indonesia and throughout the EAP region.

Activities Performed

  1. Assessment of the demand and supply of Islamic finance to SMEs in Indonesia
  2. Develop an effective Islamic Financial Instrument for SMEs
  3. Knowledge dissemination and capacity development

Milestones

  • Islamic financing facility is expected to be launched in 2011.

Impact:

An effective Islamic Financial instrument that will serve several hundred thousand SMEs across Indonesia.
