NEPAL: Energy Access and Efficiency Improvement II

Kick-off Meeting held on the May 23, 2011 in Kathmundu, Nepal for the ADB funded project on Energy Access and Efficiency Improvement Project II.

The objective of this project is to conduct necessary scoping and feasibility studies to identify appropriate candidate projects for the USD 75 million Energy Efficiency Improvement Project of the ADB. The specific objectives of the project are to assess the Nepal power sector including a problem tree analysis; identification of potential clean energy projects; preparation of feasibility studies prioritized projects; identification of suitable procurement packages; recommendation of policy, investment, and capacity building initiatives.

Activities:

  1. Assessment of the Nepal power sector;
  2. Identification of potential clean energy projects;
    Preparation of cost estimates, implementation arrangements & procurement packages;
  3. Recommendation of policy, investment, and capacity building.

Milestones:

  • A list of Generation, Transmission, and Distribution projects have been identified. Appropriate projects will be designed for ADB financing to GoN based on viabilities.

Impact:

Development of energy efficiency projects valued at a total of approx. USD 75 million.
